MIRAFLORES LAWN BOWLS CLUB

Since the inauguration of the new Bowling Green life at the Bowls Club has been very busy.

Members set to work on clearing the ground overlooking the new green and then preceded to plant over 300 plants and shrubs, all of which were donated by the members. A new automatic water sprinkling system has also been provided by the Club, which will greatly benefit all these new plants in the long hot summer months.

The Club Championship takes place throughout the year with Dennis Wood winning the Mens Singles title and Brenda Davidson the Ladies Single title.

And honours again for the Club, Pam Shemmings and Brenda Banham won the Ladies Pairs contest in the Winter Championship of the Costa del Sol. They add this to the title of Triple Champions held last year by Erica Hooper, Hilda Ivers and Doreen McDonald. Well done Ladies!!!
The recent Triple Championship held at Miraflores ended with an all Ladies Final, Irene Sibley, Chris Sims and Barbara Banham.
In February of this year Miraflores hosted the Andalucian Bowls Championships, the second largest
competition after the Spanish Nationals
held in Spain.

A very large entry of over 300 people made this an excellent competition with bowling of the highest quality. The weather was at its best and thanks are due to the many Miraflores members
who attended to help with the refreshments and to keep the competitors happy during the 8 days.

Two of our own members Reg Dale and Erica Hooper reached the semi-finals of the pairs and put up a good fight against the eventual runners up from Mijas. The men's final was a classic game of Bowls and would have graced any international stage.

The standard here on the coast is very high especially when one considers that the age group is between fifty and eighty years of age and most are here for retirement. They mainly originate from The United Kingdom but we have one Spanish national Player and a couple from Sweden have taken up the sport.s

The Club's annual prize giving was held here at the Club Miraflores. Everyone enjoyed a fabulous evening, with dancing and singing along to the entertainment provided by Pete Navarro as Neil Diamond.

Everyone is always very welcome to come and visit us at the Bowls Club.
