THE MIRAFLORES LOGO...

In late 1979 we signed the purchase deed of the land area of 350.000 square metres. Although the land was totally barren (with only one Mimosa tree), it was very attractive due to the constant rising levels from the seafront all the way up to the highest level of 110 metres.

During the following year we worked on the “master-plan" of the development, projecting a total new concept of individual communities including garden apartments and townhouses with services and leisure infrastructure. A model yet unknown to the Costa del Sol.

The dominant feature of our master plan was that nearly 40% of our investment would go towards the creation of landscaping, with lush gardens, waterfalls and an exceptional number of swimming pools. In consequence we decided the name “Miraflores” and enhanced the trademark with the Miraflores logo. The rest is history……………

SOUTHERN ANDALUSIAN OAK FOREST

Inland from the busy coast, Andalucía remains unspoilt and relatively isolated with a history, natural history and customs that have evolved in semi-isolation from the rest of mainland Europe.

The Cork Oak trees together with the Holm Oak trees are the main component of Spain’s lowland evergreen Oak forests. It is found mainly in mild, slightly humid, chalk-free areas of western Spain and
also parts of Catalonia. The striking orange coloration of freshly stripped Cork Oaks in the setting sun is one of Wild Spain’s memorable sights.

A Cork Oak in Spanish is un Alcornique and a Cork Oak grove is un Alcornocal. The “descorche” or removal of the outer portion of the bark is a skilled operation, which takes place every 8 to 12 years, normally in early summer. Cork Oaks also produce acorns for free-range pigs, tannins for the leather industry and high quality charcoal.

MIRAFLORES - OVER 20 YEARS OF TRACK RECORD

Surely in the early days, when the founder of Miraflores, Ole Sigurdsson started planning the resort he could not have imagined the final result of today.

On the other hand, those who work with Ole, a civil engineer trained in Denmark, will probably disagree. Under his direction, his team of architects, builders and managers have demonstrated extraordinary attention to all details in all phases of the development, which today is clearly evident to anyone visiting the resort, of the careful forward planning of this completed complex of over 1000 apartments and townhouses.

Miraflores struggled at first to be seen as anything other than one more of the same kind of no particular merit. The complete turnabout came in the
mid eighties, and Miraflores has since been recognized as one of the top quality resorts in the Mijas Municipality and, one would say, in the whole of Southern Spain.
